Redefining the limits of age.

Racing Age, based on the book about competitive masters track & field athletes by Angela Jimenez, is a project that uses photography and storytelling to engage elders and their communities in a positive dialogue about aging issues.

The Racing Age project makes positive, anti-stereotypical imagery of seniors accessible to the public through a touring photo exhibition and community-based art workshops for seniors.

The Racing Age traveling exhibit is a striking, beautiful art exhibit that engages local communities in thinking about aging bodies in new ways.

The Racing Age photographs are limited edition black & white pigment prints, archivally mounted and framed using UV protective non-glare Optium material for a museum-quality presentation.  Large images are 40x40” prints and smaller images are 18x18.” Information panels and interactive questions actively engage viewers with the artwork.

The artwork is professionally shipped, installed and uninstalled. An opening event, designed and publicized with your local community in mind, brings people into your space for a lively public event.

*The Racing Age exhibit is available for temporary display and for permanent acquisition.

The Racing Age community art workshops are designed to engage your local elder community in a creative dialogue about aging issues. Using oral history and photography, participants create a unique, personal work of art.

Angela Jimenez and a collaborating artist teach a workshop with a group of 8-15 participants per session. Using a mobile digital photo studio, we lead participants in making portrait photographs of one another. We bring a large format printer and help participants edit and print their large format photographs on-site. Through oral history prompts and conversation pairings, participants get to know one another in a deeper way. They explore questions of identity, aging and quality of life. Participants then use the content of these exercises to write their stories on their photographs.

These participant artworks are mounted for display at your organization. This project is a wonderful way to celebrate your community’s seniors, let people get to connect in a deeper way and to invite the public in to your community space to think differently about aging.

*At locations hosting the Racing Age traveling exhibit, workshop participants’ work is shown alongside the Racing Age photos at a public art opening. Participants are encouraged to invite family and friends.
